1)It is with a sense of profound shock & sorrow, we inform you of the sad demise of Sri Ramji yesterday afternoon
2)A Banyan tree has fallen
Just as LIC is Saviour & Protector to Nation & society, so too,Pensioners are Saviours & Protectors to their Families,kith & kin
Sri Ramji was a Veteran of many hues & colours
He was a Rock of Gibralter,as a staunch Unionist & his services to the cause of employees will go down in history as a Valiant fighter for Rights .
Please remember he did this signal service & immense sacrifice for the upliftment of service conditions & privileges, of salary & remuneration, a defender to the core to ensure victory with the Management for securing good working conditions & favourable Charter of Demands He dominated like a Colossus ,as Secretary,SZ ,AIIEA for decades & endeared himself to a large clientele for their welfare & upliftment.
3)He was an Emblem of love, affection & friendship to one & all.
He was carefree in his approach,he emitted a glow, smile & kindness while shaking hands with him. He indeed exuded warmth in abundance.He was tall, lean & fair.
The one great quality of head & heart of Sri Ramji is,he never mixed up Union activities with Office work
While I was AO.PHS in United India Building,Chennai 1,I was in good company of M/s Kannabiran,Chandrasekar,Raghavan,Babu long long ago,Loans by nearby businessmen & other rich Policyholders used to be pretty high.Not only, one has to display customer delight, do the job in quick time,take care to see calculations are right,as it is money,& what a happy manner of disposal with a clear conscience.Bundles & bundles of dockets with Payment Vouchers et all, lo,cheque prepared & Policy holder elated with the cheque,so timely for his family or busisness.
4) Sri KGRamanathan alias Ramji, as he was popularly called , is also the Founder Secretary of RIEA,Retired Insurance Employees Assn,Chennai of which Sri GVSMani is the Vice-President& I , a humble President.We recall late S/sri KVRamakrishnan & PSSEaswar who were the Pillars to organise the RIEA.
Sri Ramji was aware of the needs of retirees, he knew many & enrolled membership of RIEA.He also,alongwith all of us Office Bearers, ensured the eldest of all retirees, so-called Exgratia retirees to get monthly exgratia & after prolonged fight with management, some increase & also Medical allowance was given,stepped up etc& later extended to surviving exgratia with a reduced amount
5)Sri Ramji was ailing for long but in all functions, ceremonies of family friends, he & his wife always attended,so sociable was he.He is 89 years old
Sad he is no more,he departs from us all,his name, qualities,human & humane & helping attitude will always be enshrined in our hearts
May his soul rest in peace
May his tribe grow in emulating his sterling qualities as a torch-bearer to society
We offer our heartfelt condolences to his family & pray the Almighty to shower His Blessings to bestow strength, courage & fortitude to bear this irreparable loss
Cremation,it is learnt, shall take place between 8am to 10am tomorrow at Besantnagar crematorium
