Last month I had gone to hyderabad to attend a meeting. Near charminar I made some purchase worth Rs 1280. To make the payment, I gave my credit card. Checked the amount and punched my pin number. Do far so good.
When the receipt came out, I was shocked to that amount on receipt read Rs 128000/-. Yes it was " one lakh twenty eight thousand " INR. Immediately I also received a sms and confirming the transaction. Didn't know what to do???? Even the shopkeeper was clueless.The card was still in the slot in the machine.
Here I remembered that I had sbi card helpline number in my mobile. I immediately dialled the number to ask them for further course of action. In the meanwhile, shopkeeper also called one of his neighbouring shopkeepers who had knowledge about the machine and such occurrences.
Discussion with helpline and that neighbour put the things on right track.
So here I would like to put down the procedure to deal with such cases.
1. Immediately get void transaction receipt from the credit card machine . This facility is available in all machines.
2. Don't take out the card before getting the void transaction receipt.
3. Void transaction reverses the payment into card holder's account.
4. Send email to the bank giving details of transaction, scanned copy of the bill of purchase, void transaction receipt and receipt of faulty payment. You can also click from phone camera and attach to the mail from your gallery. Since I had sbi card, I sent the mail to -- chargeback@sbicard.com.
I retained all the receipts and copy of bills with me. Had to keep my fingers crossed as next three days were holidays.
Finally got the reply from bank that since transaction was immediately made void , my account statement didn't even show any transaction of Rs 1.28 lakh.
So be more careful while using the credit card and must always check the transaction receipt very carefully.
