Re. Outcome of the Federation's Executive Committee Meeting held at Panchkula, in May 26

Dear Sir,

The representatives of the Retired LIC Class I Officers from different Divisional Associations, who assembled from all over the country, discussed in depth about the staggering sufferings of LIC Pensioners due to non-resolution of the various issues pending with the LIC / DFS since long. Notable amongst them are:-

  • 1)
Upward Revision of Pension, periodically to neutralize the effect of the Inflation causing severe distress to pensioners with fixed pension..
    • 2)
Monthly Ex-gratia payment, till periodical updation of pension is resolved.
  • 3)
Cash Medical Allowance, to meet the regular expenses of Domiciliary Treatment.

4) Yearly Preventive Health Check up facility

and many more connected issues.

I think, I must share with you the feelings and sentiments of the Executive Committee members who held pivotal positions while in service. It is worth mentioning that almost all the Representatives, out of anguish and frustration expressed their unhappiness over the cold apathetic approach and the shabby manner with which the pensioners are being treated by the LIC Management, to which they had given their golden hours of Life & Blood in the past, to make the Organisation what it is today. They unanimously felt that LIC has not done enough to ameliorate the sufferings of its Pensioners, as compared to IBA doing for the Bank Pensioners.

The issue of Periodical Upward Revision of Pension is a matter of "Life and Death" for the pensioners with paltry fixed pension, which has to be understood in proper perspective by LIC first and next the Govt. *The Basic Pension being static, has led to a situation that today a Record Clerk retiring now, gets more Pension than an Executive Director retired 20-25 years back , unable to meet both the ends. It may be said that we have gone to the Court and the matter is Sub-Judice. Our going to the Court was not our Choice, but out of compulsion. After the Govt. (DFS), stalled the approval of the LIC Board Resolution dated 24.11.2001 to update the Pension of Pre- 1.8.97 retirees, we were left with no alternative but to seek the legal remedy available to us. It has taxed the Pensioners very heavily , both financially as well as humanly. Crores of Rupees have been spent by the Pensioners and more than 25000 Pensioners left for heavenly abode till now, with distressed living , without seeing the Justice. We do not know how long we will have to wait to see the Justice .

Let us make it clear that we are not interested in Litigation , rather are interested in solution of the burning problem. Let the LIC and the Govt. (DFS) combined find out some amicable solution to the burning problem of periodical upward revision of Pension, "out of the Court". We are prepared to cooperate in the process by discussing across the table. Now the ball is lying in your Court. We request you to kindly approach the Govt. and convince them for a negotiated amicable resolution of the burning problem of the pensioners, out of the Court. Being the Family Head, we expect you to help & save the pensioners from sufferings by getting the problem resolved.

We hope your good self will graciously make necessary and sincere efforts for the resolution of the Issue of Upward Revision of Pension. Please note if it takes longer time, kindly impress upon the Govt./DFS to grant respectable Monthly Ex-gratia Amount to pensioners, as Bank Pensioners are getting since 1.11.2022 , till our Upward revision of Pension happens.

With the great hope and expectation and profound regards.

Yours faithfully

S. K. Awasthi
