Friends,

Reg:  May-day is here ….

It is a Day such as this that motivates and Re-energizes the community of people who fall under the broad meaning of 'Workers'. I quote Martin Luther King Jr. who famously said, "No work is insignificant. All labour that uplifts Humanity has Dignity and importance, and should be undertaken with painstaking Excellence". Much of what we see around us today, by way of improvements in either working conditions of human hired labour, or the Returns thereof, have been achieved only through constant vigil and protracted struggles.

Today we, the Retired Class of Officers of LIC, are again struggling to get fair treatment from the Powers that hold Authority. The Universal message is that unless we stand organized and keep asking for our basic human rights, nothing is bound to flow forth on its own. It is our own unflagging spirit that should bring us results. Our going to the Court for justice is almost a misnomer, as Courts only interpret existing Rules/Law, and if such Rules do not support our just Demands, by virtue of getting outdated by March of Time, Courts cannot go out of their mandated Role, to plead for justice on our behalf.

This is precisely the reason why we have repeatedly gone to great lengths to agitate our matter of Up-gradation of Pension with the Governmental Authorities. Only they can alter the Rules to current requirements of Time, if they can see our Point in terms of comparative justice and fairness, to those who contributed, in their time, to the state of growth now seen in the Organization. We can never substitute methods of struggle, whatever they now mean to us as a retired class, with any other means that can assure us justice.

The case of the 92-93 Retirees, in the 8 month gap period,  is a classic case where a clear judgment by the Supreme Court, in the case of one man who went to Court ( Sri M C Jain),and won his point, was not extended to all others who were similarly placed! Till today, the matter remains hanging, and the Authorities in the LIC, who can see the point as clear as daylight, still keep passing the decision over, till almost the entire affected generation is mostly wiped out of existence! That is why we took up the matter yet again, though on one side the matter still remains in Court.

Friends, we have no update on the special Committee that was reportedly appointed to go into our main demand for up-gradation of Pension along with improvement in Family Pension. We are not even certain that a Committee was indeed appointed for the purpose of going into our matters. Unfortunately, the second wave of Covid has simply taken the wind out of the sails of all other matters and the whole country stands trans-fixed not knowing how to stem this terrible rot. Let us therefore exercise that element of human consideration, to wait for more time, which, unfortunately, many out of us, may not have the luxury to see through. But there is little else that we can do here.

Let us re-vitalize within us the spirit of May-Day now, so that we shall not say quits until our goals are achieved. Long live the spirit of Unity amongst those who work / worked earlier. With Special May-Day Greetings to one and all, and with wishes that all of us remain safe and healthy in these difficult times.

D.Krishnan

LIC emerging as 3rd Strongest Global Brand

Referring to your post on the above,it is worthwhile to understand the methodology adopted by Brand Finance to value the life insurance companies to arrive at the rankings as follows:

Brand Valuation Methodology

Brand Finance calculates the values of the brands in its league tables using the Royalty Relief approach – a brand valuation method compliant with the industry standards set in ISO 10668.

This involves estimating the likely future revenues that are attributable to a brand by calculating a royalty rate that would be charged for its use, to arrive at a 'brand value' understood as a net economic benefit that a licensor would achieve by licensing the brand in the open market.

The steps in this process are as follows:

1 Calculate brand strength using a balanced scorecard of metrics assessing Marketing Investment, Stakeholder Equity, and Business Performance. Brand strength is expressed as a Brand Strength Index (BSI) score on a scale of 0 to 100.

2 Determine royalty range for each industry, reflecting the importance of brand to purchasing decisions. In luxury, the maximum percentage is high, in extractive industry, where goods are often commoditised, it is lower. This is done by reviewing comparable licensing agreements sourced from Brand Finance's extensive database.

3 Calculate royalty rate. The BSI score is applied to the royalty range to arrive at a royalty rate. For example, if the royalty range in a sector is 0-5% and a brand has a BSI score of 80 out of 100, then an appropriate royalty rate for the use of this brand in the given sector will be 4%.

4 Determine brand-specific revenues by estimating a proportion of parent company revenues attributable to a brand.

5 Determine forecast revenues using a function of historic revenues, equity analyst forecasts, and economic growth rates.

6 Apply the royalty rate to the forecast revenues to derive brand revenues.

7 Brand revenues are discounted post-tax to a net present value which equals the brand value.

LIC at a brand value of $ 8,655 million, as part of most valuable insurance brand,  has gone up by 6.8 per cent in helping the company to improve its ranking from 13 thto 10 th in this segment which is topped by Chinese Ping An, with a brand value of $44,798 million.

Ping An is still by far the world's most valuable insurance brand, despite recording a 26 per cent drop in brand value to US$44.8 billion. The decline in brand value is largely attributable to the temporary drop in future earnings and revenue outlook, compared to the previous year.

China Life has overtaken Allianz (down 19% to US$20.2 billion) to claim second spot in the Brand Finance Insurance 100 2021 ranking, after recoding a slight 4% decrease in brand value to US$22.6 billion.

Amount spent on Advertisements and publicity byArvind Kejriwal

Scenario and shape of things to come

1)Time flies We are in 2021,most dangerous period , 2nd wave more harmful  & wrecking the whole world  & creating a crisis unbearable
World is shaken by Corona .
Economies get shattered
Societies even disappear.
Families are in shambles .
Individuals lose scope for artistry & creativity . Uncertainty is at its highest.
Even Gods are in prison, sad temples are desolate & devotees are in distress.
Home is a huddle but social
distancing is a must .
TV displays tragedy of unlimited , unbearable infra situation .
Sense of anticipation got bogged down during this critical time.
Leadership is tested to the ultimate.
Sterling qualities of head & heart required .
May 2nd State election results should not make situation murkier. High watermark election with lowest decency or decorum & unexpected derogatory remarks & personal vilification marred real democratic & parliamentary elections

2)But for Seetha somehow rushing me on 16 March 2021, to scan in ambulance to Bharathiraja Hospital & Radiologist after MRI scan advised  admission In Best Hospital Kodambakkam , where I spent 8days & I was unconscious till I reached Best . Anything could have happened to me God is with Seetha  I am always accustomed to bear hardships like fall in bathroom & imprisonment for 1 hour till the Avatar of carpenters doing work in opposite flat rushed on Seethas request for breaking the door bolt done in 20 minutes & somehow lifting me with their prowess to nearby bedroom

3)Hospital visits is not unusual as KAUVERY Hospital , then Trinity Hospital & now these 2
Punarpusam is Lord Rama's & mine too to suffer & yet help the pensioners of LIC

Faith & Prayers & spiritual bent of mind with empathy & unalloyed help to temples , priests,
& poor downtrodden thro Regular Annadhanam goes on
What Future has in store ,none can foretell with accuracy

4)Some decisive dent has to be made st DELHI to meet Hon FM who promised she always keeps up promise & fulfill her utterances
As Top Mgt Retirements are due fromJune 2021 itself& as Handsome salary grades & benefits conferred , outstanding issues of Pensioners must engage attention & AIRIEF must take initiative with other Pensioners Fedns to jointly converge & have forceful plea with Hon
FM as she was Empathetic to the cause of Pensioners

New Chief Justice Hon MVRamana even in his 1st appearance has criticized EC for harbouring 2nd wave & political rallies root cause for Delhi havoc of large number of deaths
Whatever it is if we turn idle spectators our problems will get magnified, more deaths & damage to Pensioners Fraternity & posterity will not forgive . So near & yet so far does not mean abandonment

Greetings & Regards,

RBKishore
