My query to ChatGPT on GST on Group Mediclaim Scheme Policies

You're asking whether the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on a Group Mediclaim (group health insurance) scheme policy in India will be nil. Here's the latest, as of early September 2025:

---

Recent Developments

1. GST Exemption Applies to Individual Policies Only

In the 56th GST Council meeting, policymakers have approved zero GST on individual health and life insurance policies, reducing it from the previous 18%—effective September 22, 2025 .

This decision aims to make such policies more affordable for individuals .

2. Group Mediclaim Policies—GST Still Applies

Group health insurance (Mediclaim) premiums remain subject to 18% GST, as per current law .

Employers cannot claim Input Tax Credit (ITC) on GST paid for group health insurance unless it's mandatory under law .

---

Summary Table

Policy Type Current GST Status (as of Sept 3, 2025)

Individual health / life insurance GST exempt (0%), effective Sep 22, 2025
Group Mediclaim (group health) GST still 18%, no exemption; ITC not typically allowed

---

What This Means for You

Even though GST on individual policies is being reduced to nil, this does not extend to group Mediclaim policies. These continue to attract 18% GST with no change announced as of now.

Furthermore, because insurers can't claim ITC on group health policies (unless mandated by law), there's no financial mechanism reducing or eliminating this GST component for employers or policyholders under such schemes.

---

If you'd like, I can keep an eye on any future GST Council updates or explore how this might impact premiums and tax implications for group policies. Let me know!

GST rate changes will be aplicable from 22nd September 2025

Workmen's Status in LIC

Subject: Workmen's Status in LIC
Any write up on the corporates should contain about the gains and losses of its workmen. In the case of LIC, the employees ,they started with good wages with pension in a a major private insurer Oriental like Imperial Bank/SBi. Unit employees of 245 p8rivate insurers who faced "Hire and Fire "every day wanted security of jobs supported the TU under ID Act !947 with 85% strong. But for political reasons only TU among PSu-s made them  to act like Luddites of 18th century toward pre-computer age Main frames without Internet which no one imagined then. Consequently they lost TU rights in the name of Sec 48 of LIC Act which is heavier than loss of money ie.,pension like SBI. As workmen didn't insist on their mentor for the loss of two essentials in the name of security of jobs. An imagination of loss of jobs is preposterous in a Socialistic Pattern of Society advocated by first PM at  Avadi congress in 1955 just before Nationalisation of Life Insurance. So in LIC during first 37 years workmen with Stagnant wages/ no pension unlike SBI established in1955 and all died in penury with entry cadre becoming life long cadre. In all PSB-s all Bank clerks becoming Officers who are double the number of former. In LIC the situation is opposite. Class Three is double the number of Officers. One don't want to comment court case of Pension Upgradation of two decades, the result may be favourable after all pension op-tees expired unless they utilize many ways to compel GOI to contribute the shortage in Pension fund for arrears from 1.8.97 till this day from the Windfall Profit of more than 7 to 10 Lakh crores as per the so called actuarial report said to be with LIC, the details of which are unknown. In LIC arrears are possible even for 69 years, if there is a will to achieve than legal process unlike in highly profitable RBI workmen lost arrears

Meeting with CEO & MD at Indore on 31.08.2025

Today, our CEO cum MD Mr R. Doraiswamy was in Indore  to address CZO HOD's meeting.
Through Sr DM Indore Mr Prabhat Sahu, Shri Toke requested for some time to felicitate him on his maiden visit to Indore and he was kind enough to agree and informed us to be at Hotel where he would introduce us after the meeting. The meeting prolonged and it was time for his flight and we could meet him at the hotel lobby.
I felicitated and greeted him well with a floral bouquet on behalf of all members of All India Retired Emloyees' Federation and thanked him for the relief extended to pensioners in mediclaim premium thus increasing the pension.
Believe me, he on his own said "there are other issues too I know pending at CO and let me see what can be done".                      These words of his surely can be seen as a glimmer of hope by us all. A positive and empathetic approach towards us. A down to earth person suggestive of possessing a humane heart. -Ranjan DeySarkar                 General Secrerary,
