A worth reading decision of the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission
As we are aware, many times Officials of Governments and various Public Sector Undertakings are harassing the poor citizens by declining their legitimate claims and escalating the litigations up to the top layer of the judiciary.
The attached recent decision of the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, New Delhi is the eye opener for such Officials. In these appeals heard collectively, the National Commission has not only imposed punitive penalty of Rs.10,00,000/- on the New India Insurance Company, but has also ordered that the amount should be recovered from the Officers who are responsible for stretching the legal battles up to the level of the National Commission.
