Shri S M Murty's RESPONSE on Shri C H Mahadeva's POST

Thank you, Sir[Shri C H Mahadevan].
Will read the Article again later tonight to grasp all that is relevant and useful to us.
In the meantime, I want to highlight the subtle difference between arguments in support of Pension as such (as a deferred wage etc.,) and the arguments (clamour, if I may call so) for its periodical 'increase/enhancement', leading to OR-OP regime. As far as the situation in India is concerned, the Law seems to be well settled that there shall be Pension (notwithstanding the IBA's denial of any contractual relationship). But what is being disputed and sought to be denied is its periodic 'enhancement'.

We may have to explore available avenues drawing from Universal practices, to build a strong case to evolve a scientific policy not only to grant and pay pension, not permit its value erosion over a period of time AND FINALLY ENSURE THAT THE QUANTUM OF PENSION PAID FOR LIFE SHALL NOT REMAIN STAGNANT.

If my proposal to pursue our cases on a larger canvas goes forward, I would prefer the resistance from the 'giver's' side to disappear and make the beneficiary to become a responsible party to the decision making process. Imagine a situation where a new Pension Policy to be applied pan-India, shall be discussed with a positive approach, by ALL stakeholders - Government, Employer, Serving employees (future Pensioners), the present Pensioners (future Family Pensioners) AND the Family Pensioners. The exercise is a two stage process, one, agree if you should, that this shall be the correct pension Policy. If so go to stage two. It may look impossible to make it happen. Due to myriad constraints. So think and think till you find solutions to make it possible. What is required for this tough exercise is the correct attitude - the giver should not think he is giving and the taker/beneficiary should not say, i want it, I demand and I don't care how you give it.

Slipping in to idealism? Will continue
Thanks and regards,
