Ram, I Won!

Dear Ram, I am a very regular person that you might bump into if you were in Patna. I often feel that no one will listen to me if I speak out about a problem. Last month, I did something so powerful I could have never imagined it. I was able to make a big insurance company accountable to its customer. I lost my brother to a sudden asthma attack 7 months ago. While trying to grapple with this loss, the insurance company he was insured with rejected his life insurance. They said he had withheld medical information. But that was not true! My family was not only in shock and grieving, but we were now being made powerless too. After one of my friends suggested it, I started a petition on Change.org asking the company to reconsider my brother's life insurance claim. I then shared the petition within my networks. Support started pouring in. Friends and their friends signed the petition, left comments in support and started sharing this on facebook and twitter. Within 6 days, a representative of the insurance company flew in to meet me. They had seen the petition grow in size and knew they could not ignore the public pressure. They approved the claim and have now wired the money to my account. I am calling it a 6 day revolution! Nothing will bring my brother back but I know he would have been very proud of what we did. Ram, you don't need to be an activist or a politician to create an impact. Do you want to create change about something bothering you? Starting a petition could be a great first step to bring a change you want to see. It's easy, quick and I was amazed to see how it worked for me. It could work for you too. Warmly, Dilkash | | | | | | | | |
