What makes Vitamin D so essential to stay fit...

Subject: hari, what makes Vitamin D so essential to stay fit...

 Hi,

Are you a vegetarian or one who travels in closed vehicles? Then
probably you don't get enough Vitamin D.

Osteomalacia or softening of the bones is usually caused by poor
Vitamin D supplements. Though not as popular as osteoporosis this
condition is also very limiting and highly incapacitating.

You might already know that animal foods and sunlight are the two
natural sources of Vitamin D. Sometimes, other than poor sun
exposure, low Vitamin D intake and malabsorption of the Vitamin by
the intestines also result in Oseomalacia. Some other medical
conditions like kidney failure, cancer etc can contribute to it too.

Sufferers experience bone pain (cracks in bone), muscle  back
aches, and stiffness most often in the lower part of the body as
they make movements. You might have noticed some people walking
with a rocking motion. This is due to osteomalacia. Certain other
symptoms may also indicate osteomalacia including abnormal heart
rhythms, numbness of limbs, spasms of limbs and the like. Such
symptoms lhep the doctors to diagnose mineral deficiencies. Vitamin
D deficiency is also found to increase insulin resistance leading
to the development of Type 2 diabetes.

Bone is not a dead thing. It needs constant renewal and
replenishment with calcium, phosphate and Vitamin D. When this is
sparingly received, bones start giving up. And without symptoms,
osteomalacia remains hidden for a long time.

The sick, the elderly, those who wear clothing that prevents sun
exposure, those who are lactose intolerant or dislike milk and milk
products, those who are on a lacto vegetarian diet and those who
get poor sunlight in their region often risk this condition.

Along with calcium and Vitamin D supplements, rest is crucial in
the treatment of Osteomalacia. Weight bearing exercises are
recommended depending on the condition of the sufferer.

Osteomalacia is a highly preventable condition. Eat Vitamin D rich
foods like oily fish, egg yolks, milk and food products fortified
with Vitamin D. Also, spend a few minutes under the sun everyday.

Take care!
