Sri J.S.SALUNKHE NO MORE : A TRIBUTE
The death of our former LIC Chairman , Sri JSSalunkhe at his Mumbai residence has evoked sadness & shock amongst the entire LIC Fraternity.Apart from stellar roles he played earlier, joining LIC after nationalization, he was Captain & Commander of LIC from 1994—1996. He was calm, cool, composed, when in his elements while we talk fairly free dropping him in Airport .or picking up after arrival, for functions or Seminars,he used to cut jokes freely& regaled us all.Actuaries are generally considered to be wry & dry but he combined in himself this attribute ably. Moreso ,when Chairman has to approach ,DFS Secretary or MOS Finance or FM himself,it is not an easy task to get the demands placed in the Notes approved .
He always regarded LIC as a family figure & in many of his lectures or addresses laid emphasis on collective strength. An Actuary insists on specific standards & benchmark achievements for the institution to grow rapidly.Transfers are regarded as wide exposure & a salutary learning experience. He used to portray LIC as a good parent with HFL & MF doing well.He expressed then that Annuity business has to be tapped but it is a tricky business because of longevity risk.He felt that the value of coordinated staff & officers, field force,& policyholders which has bound LIC to promote trust has to be sharpened & strengthened as public & citizens regard LIC as a Custodian of their money .He felt image of social orientation as a Corporate Citizen has sunk deep & it is a testimony of our public services & common welfare standing us in good stead .
As an ardent believer in HRD practices,he laid emphasis on importance of training. Training Module Committee Report to reap benefits of training all round .He was glad that I am doing a communication crusade throughout both at ZTC Chennai with Qly HM Makarantham & also the Monthly RM P& IR 2 page Bulletins regularly from EZ all over India. He complimented the exhaustive Training Module Committee Report prepared by our Team to reap benefits of training all round .He conveyed that NIA Director felicitation function ,a combined big gathering of bigwigs of life & general insurance at Kolkata,I will love& I was asked by ZM Sri RNTripathi to participate & propose a vote of thanx.
He has set an example for all of us to follow as great men leave footprints on the sands of time. That an endearing person in such tall position, with such a high & noble vision for this great Institution had adorned it so well to navigate to a better & brighter horizon to face competitive future so courageously with confidence is the testimony we all must remember with goodwill & gratitude
We convey our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. May the Almighty shower strength & fortitude to his family to bear this irreparable loss .May his soul rest in peace
Mournfully,
