Raksha Bandhan celebrates the relationship between brothers and sisters. Sisters tie rakhi on their brothers' wrist on this day. The rakhi symbolizes sister's love and prayers for her brother's well-being, and the brother's lifelong vow to protect her.
As all other festivals in India, even rakhi has many rituals associated with it in different parts of the country. In Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, Rakhi is first tied on the God. Out of the 12 jyotirlingas of India, the only dakshinmukhi or south facing jyotirlinga, Mahakaleshwar, is situated in Ujjain. People here consider Mahakaleshwar as their king; hence, they celebrate every festival first with Mahakaleshwar. Even on Raksha Bandhan, people tie rakhi on their brother's wrist only after offering the first one to Mahakaleshwar.
*Bachpan ki wo bheeni smritiyan
Lekar aaya Rakhi ka tyohaar
Baat-baat par wo roothna mera
Sneh tumhara jyun babul ka pyaar
Mubarak ho Bhaiya tumhein
Raksha Bandhan ka ye tyohaar!
