I would suggest to the concerned eligible retired officers and the nominees/legal heirs of deceased eligible retired officers to request LIC to pay the difference in salary without difference commutation value, as if commutation difference is paid, then the arrears will be substantially reduced, because the amounts recovered for commutation will far exceed the difference in commuted pension.
In cases where the retired officer died within 15 years of the commutation becoming absolute , i.e well before 2010, the nominee/ legal heirs may decide whether it is more beneficial to receive commutation difference and make a request suitably .
But we are still not sure how LIC will act in the matter , as, in the case of Mr M C Jain, reportedly he got a meagre amount due to commutation difference recoveries.
The Pensioners' Associations need to suitably guide the beneficiaries in the matter.
