Every investor plays in stock market for profit. GOI as 96.5% owner of LIC certainly intervenes in the decisions related to corporates both private and public as well as in social development programmes to uplift its people. Many yield huge returns with some huge losses. Overall LIC earn a lot in investment which reveals Rs 5 crore investment in 1956 has the market value of 5+lakh crores as on date apart from cumulative value of 5 crores @12% for 69 years ie., Rs 15 000 crores by selling 3.5% shares for 21000 crores. It is a different matter GOI doesn't permit pension upgradation along with arrears to the retirees of LIC from its unimaginable windfall profit. HNI are prepared to purchase 51% shares with management control for 10 lakh crore even after leaving 49% to GOI. Such is the potential of LIC which may happen one day with none has power to resist.
