The Hyderabad high court directed the town police to
register an FIR after the widow of Dr Bhukya Ramji, a general surgeon,
alleged that Chowdhury and her associates took around `1.5 crore from
her husband promising a Congress ticket for Wyra assembly constituency
but refused to return the money when she failed to secure a ticket.
Chowdhury has denied the charges.
Bhukya Kalavathi (27) said her husband died of a
nervous breakdown in October after the Congress leader failed to secure a
party ticket and refused to return the money. Wyra seat is reserved for
STs.
"I and my two little kids became destitute. When we
went to ask for the money we were abused by the MP (Chowdhury) and her
men. The police refused to register a case. It was only after a petition
in HC that this case was registered on March 16... If I don’t get
justice, I have no option but to commit suicide," Kalavathi told HT.
Refuting the charges, Chowdhury said, "The allegations are bizarre. The HC is following a process. I will fight it legally."
