BANK RETIREES NEWS-Information of the Union Bank (Employees') Pension Fund

UNION BANK RETIRED EMPLOYEES' ASSOCIATION
Date: 16th July,'15

Information of the Union Bank (Employees') Pension Fund
                                  - Decision of RTI Second Appeal in another case
As informed to you earlier, the management of Union Bank of India was reluctant to provide us information of the pension fund trust.

Therefore, according to expert guidance of Shri J.P.Shah, a RTI Application was filed by Shri Sudhir M. Selarka, a member of our Association with the Provident Fund Regulatory & Development Authority (PFRDA) , New Delhi with a hope that it will provide us whatever information is available with them about our Bank's Pension Trust. However, the PFRDA had replied that it was not the controlling authority of Union Bank's Pension Trust and hence no information was available with them. According to procedure laid down in RTI Act, if information is not available with the authority to whom we have submitted RTI application, they should transfer our RTI application to the authority with whom the information is available. Accordingly, PFRDA had transferred the RTI application to our Bank. But the Bank, as usual, denied to provide us required information giving excuse that some of the information was not available and several other information could not be parted with because the same pertains to commercial confidence of the Bank and the Trust.

Not satisfied with the Ban's reply, ultimately, the complaint was elevated to the level of Central Information Commission, New Delhi by filing second appeal. The decision of the Second Appeal and Shri Selarka's letter to the Bank are attached to this e-mail.
The decision shows the power of RTI.
The information, as and when received, will be forwarded to you as well as to the General Secretary, All India Union Bank Retirees' Federation.
Yours sincerely,
B.G.Raithatha,
General Secretary
