Getting a copy of your Panjab
University degree for any course will soon be just a click away as the
authorities have decided to start issuing online degrees to students. From
September 23, the services of issuing copies of degrees to students will be
available online.
To make the process hassle-free for
students, the university has decided that after an application for an online
degree is received by the examination wing of the university, within three
days, a duplicate of the degree will be sent to the student along with a
username and password, using which he can access the copy.
Earlier, a duplicate of a degree was
issued manually in 21 days by the examination wing.
The student who applies for the
online degree will have to send a scanned photo ID proof to get the degree
issued by the university. Under the new rules, a candidate also has the option
of getting a copy of the degree by post.
To check any misuse of the online
copy of the degree, the university has added some security features. To open a
copy of the degree, a student will have to fill some details, which will be
verified by the software and only after that the student will have access to
the copy.
PU Controller of Examinations
Parvinder Singh said the online degree would have several advantages for the
students as it would be a verified degree and could be used for admission to
any university and for immigration purposes by them. He said the fee for
the online duplicate degree would be the same as that charged for issuing a
degree manually.
A student can also apply for
duplicate certificates online. From next year, the university plans to
issue degrees carrying the photograph of the student.
The new degree will also have
details of the student in Hindi and will carry a hologram which will have the
profile of the student and details of his or her admission and parents.
A
first Panjab University will be the first university in the country to
introduce online duplicate copies of degrees to students.
