Bank
pensioners will stage a dharna on December 11 in New Delhi in support
of demands for better pension and recognition on a par with government
retirees.
Alleging
that they are being discriminated against, as their pension unlike that
of government employees is not getting updated with the change in
wages, leaders of bodies representing the 8-lakh bank pensioners
highlighted the need for revision of pension at frequent intervals.
Secretary-AP
and Telangana of All India Bank Pensioners and Retirees Confederation
A.V.V. Raghava Rao said though a provision for revision in their pension
was available it was not being implemented. Union Finance Ministry, he
added, should direct Indian Banks’ Association to revise the pension. He
was addressing media persons along with general secretary of Federation
of SBI Pensioners Associations, A.Ramesh Babu, here on Tuesday. While
basic pension of other pensioners is revised with every PRC Pay Revision
Commission, there is no change in that for bank pensioners. Family
pensioners in other categories are paid 50 per cent of their deceased
spouse’s basic pension, where in the case of bankers this is limited to
15 per cent. “When all pensioners’ DA is neutralised to 100 per cent of
CPI, it is only 50 per cent for bank pensioners,” a joint statement
said.
