DENIAL OF CASH WITHDRAWAL ACROSS THE COUNTER TO PENSIONER fw ERI BOI

GS 1/146/ 15                                                                                                    2nd November 2015
The Chairman & Managing Director,
Union Bank of India,
Central Office,
Mumbai.
Dear Sir,
Sub: Denial of Cash Withdrawal across the counter to Pensioners.

Bank is in the process of introducing its new initiative called Utkarsh and accordingly modifying the existing Business Processes in the Branches. Such initiatives are primarily designed and aimed to improve the customer service and enhance the customer satisfaction so as to increase the Bank’s business numbers with quality.

However, we observe that Bank is denying Cash Payments across the counter to pensioners as a result of change in business process and the same does not go well with this section of customers.

Please note that Bank has sizable pensioners’ accounts where they draw pension less than Rs 25,000. Pensioners due to their old age normally do not visit branches but withdraw the amount as per their needs through the family members by presenting the cheques. They would never like to hand over their ATM Card to anyone to withdraw the money. Under the circumstances the Bank denying cash withdrawals from pensioners’ accounts and insisting them to withdraw money through ATM is creating hardships to the pensioners.

As per repot received by us, most of the pensioners are expressing displeasure and they have started to transfer the pension amount from accounts with our Bank to other Bank accounts. Our Bank has sizable low cost resources lying to the credit of these pensioners’ accounts. Hence the denial of payment of cash across the counter will have impact on our CASA share besides spreading wrong message about our services among the senior citizens and other customers.

Hence we bring the development to your office to advise the concerned department to revoke its decision and to extend cash withdrawal across the counter to pensioners. We are sure that you will address the issue immediately.

Thanking you,

[
