Tributes to the departed

SHRI  J  MATTHAN,  EX. CHAIRMAN,  SHRI  K. R. CHANDRASEKHAR,  SHRI A.  BALASUBRAMANYA  SASTRY
             -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I  deem  it  a  privilege  to  join  all  the  dignitary-pensioners  in  paying  my  respects  and  homage  to  the  distinguished  personalities  above-mentioned  and  pray  the  ALMIGHTY  to  place  the  departed  souls  in  eternal  peace.

I  had  not  known  Shri  Matthan  Sir  but  our  Visakhapatnam Division  was  privileged  to  have  him  here  for  the  inauguration  of  the  prestigeous  11-storeyed  LIC  Divisional  Office  Building  in  1979,   Through  a   senior  colleague  Development  Officer  who  had  been  from  the  "New  India",  I  had  known  that  Shri  Matthan  Sir  also  was  from  the  "New  India".    Shri  P.  Subrahmanyam  was  perhaps  the  Divisional  Manager  of  the  division  and  incidentally and  strangely  he  too was  from  the  "New  India".

Shri  K. R. Chandrasekhar  was  DM  at  Visakhapatnam  when  I  was  Development  Officer  at  a  rural  centre  in  the  division.  I  had  the  honour  to  have  him  with me  and  my  agents  in  a  meeting  during  his  tour  to  my  headquarters.

I  do  not  have  any  knowledge  about  Shri  Balasubramanya  Sastry  Sir  but  going  through  the  rich  tributes  paid  by  several  veterans  among  the  pensioners fraternity about  his  attributes,  I  can  understand  that  Shri  Balu  Sir  had  endeared  himself  to  all  by  vurtue  of  his  noble   character  and his  urge,  dedication  and commitment  to  serve  the  fellow-beings.  Really  such  personalities  are  rare  these  days.   I  am  happy  I  have  chanced  to  know  about  him  thro  your  blog.

A  small  observation:   While  paying  encomiums  and  tributes  to  Shri  Balasubramanya  Sastry,  a  dignitary  mentioned  Shri  Balu  Sir  as  a   "simpleton".  The  word 'simpleton'  gives  a  different  meaning,  I  don't   need   to   elaborate,   obviously  it  was  intended  to  assert  that  he  was  a  man  of  simplicity,  or  for  a  plain understanding,  a  simple  man.

              M.V.P.R. PRASAD  (Visakhapatnam)
