X Standard, +2, B.A., M.A., M.Phil, Ph.D!

Dear Mr Sahni,
I seek your kind resolution of a long-standing doubt of mine and it is that why is it people who have passed a higher degree in any discipline add the lower degrees acquired by them also after their names?
An example is  Dr. Gopi A MBBS, MD - General Medicine, DNB Cardiology, DM - Cardiology (Emphasis supplied).
I was telling a friend of mine, a Ph.D., the other day that he should have a string of 'degrees' as follows after his name :
     Dr xxxxxxxxxxxxx, X Standard, +2, B.A., M.A., M.Phil, Ph.D.
A medical doctor friend of mine tells me that the longer the string of degrees after a doctor's name, the more impressed people are!
     Thanks and regards.
     Have a nice day.
P. Ramanathan
