I attach a chart highlighting the very serious anomaly of retirees receiving less gross pension than family pensioners of later generations in the same cadre and lower cadres as at 29/2/2024.
52 positions of retirees in Group 1 to 4 retirement periods are drawing less gross pension than that of family pensioners of Groups 5,6 &7 in the same cadre and lower cadres.
A close scrutiny of the chart reveals that even a family pensioner of a deceased SDM of Group 4 draws more gross pension of Rs 34812 than a retired SDM of Group 1 drawing a gross pension of Rs 34653.Similarly a ZM of Group 1 drawing Rs 36423 is getting less gross pension than a family pensioner of a Group 4 deceased ZM drawing Rs 38633 and an ED of Group 1 drawing Rs 37750 gets less than a family pensioner of a deceased ZM of Group 4 drawing Rs 38633.
Common sense dictates that retiree pension is intended to meet the financial needs of two or more members in the retirees' family while family pension is intended to meet the financial needs of a single member after the death of the retiree. The anomaly as revealed in the chart is a result of non-upgradation of pension with every wage revision and we shall definitely use this point in our arguments before the SC Bench through our Senior Counsel.
This anomaly is in addition to and more serious than the anomaly of earlier generations of retirees drawing dismally lower gross pension than later generations of retirees.
Let us hope we succeed in our efforts.
