The Chairperson, LIC of India, Central Office, Jeevan Bima Marg, Mumbai - 400 021.
Dear Sir,
In the information sharing session held today with the in - service employees' Unions, it is informed that LIC is formulating a scheme for payment of ex gratia to the pensioners and family pensioners. We are disappointed to note that such a scheme would be applicable for only the pensioners who are above the age of 70 years. We wish to state that leaving a sizeable pensioners out of the proposed scheme is violative of Article 14 of the Constitution. What is more disturbing is that the scheme contemplates only a single lumpsum payment.
We have been demanding for periodical updation of pension as is being done under Central Civil Services Pension Rules. We are justified in this since the LIC Employees' Pension Scheme, 1995 was framed on the lines of the Central Government Pension scheme. The Life Insurance Corporation of India has the financial strength to meet this demand. It must be remembered that if LIC is a world class financial institution now, its past employees and officers have made enormous contributions for attaining this status.
Therefore, without prejudice to our demand for pension updation, we suggest that the proposed scheme for exgratia payment should cover all pensioners and family pensioners. The ex gratia should be a regular monthly addition to the pension.
We also request you to call us for a discussion on this issue.
Yours faithfully,
General Secretary.
