Ex-gratia to pensioners

FEDERATION OF RETIRED LIC CLASS I OFFICERS' ASSOCIATIONS

30-04-2024

Sri Siddharth Mohanty, Chairperson, LIC of lndia, MUMBAI.

Respected Sir,

Dear Sir,

Through the Press Release issued by the LIC on 15th of March 2024 , we and the pensioner fraternity came to know that LIC has obtained the approval of the Govt. for One Time Ex-gratia payment to LIC pensioners. It raised hope in the pensioners that LIC is going to make them available, an Exgratia Scheme better than in the Banking Industry. But the filtered news, coming out through the Organisations attending the Information Sharing Session on 29.4.24, that the proposed Ex-gratia scheme is not on banking pattern and is available only to a selective group of pensioners (70 years and above) and not to all pensioners, has evoked a very sharp reaction from the left out pensioners.

We as an Organisation of the pensioners are dead against this discriminatory approach of the LIC of putting out a cut of Age of 70 yrs for eligibility of the benefit. This approach of LIC is arbitrary and discriminatory and is bad in Law. Such actions by the LIC in the past, in the matter of D.R to Pre 97 retirees and in the matter of retirees between 1.8.92 to 31.3.93 have led to litigations where the LIC's actions were disapproved, even by the Supreme Court. I would therefore earnestly request you to remove the barrier and make the scheme available to all the pensioners. Since the details of the Scheme has not been placed in the public domain, we are not in a position to comment on the merits and demerits of the Scheme at the moment.

Furthermore, it would have been better, if LIC had, had an Information Sharing session with the Pensioners Organisations in the matter of pensioners' issues. We are completely in dark, what the Scheme is and what benefits are contemplated in it. Such a sharing approach alone would help in creating a mutual trust and faith between LIC and the Pensioners organisation.

With Regards

Yours Faithfully

S. K. Awasthi.

General Secretary
