Letter to All Pensioners Associations

ALL INDIA INSURANCE PENSIONERS ASSOCIATION

No.04/2024.

14.05.2024.

To All affiliated Units.

Dear Comrades,

We have addressed letters to other Pensioners'Associations functioning in LIC to explore the possibility of building a joint action to pursue the important issues concerning LIC pensioners with the authorities concerned. A copy of the letter is reproduced below for information.

With greetings,

Comradely yours ,

(General Secretary)

Dear Friend,

14.05.2024

We are writing this to explore the possibility of a common understanding on some issues relating to the community of Pensioners and building of a joint action to pursue the same with the authorities.

The decision of LIC to come out with a scheme of onetime lumpsum ex-gratia payment to those 70 years and above has excluded majority of the pensioners and family pensioners from its scope. This has created unhappiness and bitterness among a large section of the pensioners. Our enquiries with the authorities reveal that a scheme for monthly ex-gratia payment to all the pensioners and family pensioners is not under the consideration of LIC. This makes the present scheme unattractive even for those who are eligible for ex-gratia compared to the scheme formulated in the analogous institutions. If the lumpsum payment is spread over a period of wage settlement, it works out to a niggardly amount. Therefore, it is necessary that we should demand and pursue LIC to frame a scheme benefitting the entire community of pensioners with some monthly payment without prejudice to our demand for periodical updation of pension along with the wage revision.

Secondly, our case in the Supreme Court on updation of pension and full neutralisation of Dearness Allowance for those pensioners retired before 1.8.1997 has reached a critical stage. Our case will have to come up for arguments after the summer vacation. It will be helpful if we can decide some common ground to present our case effectively before the Bench.

Therefore, we suggest that we meet to discuss these issues either in person or through a video conference at a convenient date. The Presidents and General Secretaries of the respective associations may participate in this meeting. We hope for an early response from you on this.

With warm greetings,

Yours sincerely,

Sd/M Kunhikrishnan, (General Secretary)
