GANDHI JAYANTI

Dear All,

Gandhi Jayanti & 155th BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF BAPU, the MAHATMA,2nd October 2024 :

R.B.KISHORE,PATRON,AIRIEF

1)Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, Mahatma Gandhi, the apostle of peace and the Father of the Nation was born on 2nd October 1869 at Porbandar in Gujarat.

Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated on this very day every year as the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, Father of the Nation.

Gandhi, as he was popularly called, proved that non-violence is the most effective instrument of social change. His teachings are promoted even today to avoid violence and find peaceful solutions to conflicts.

Through his sheer dedication and self-belief, Gandhi freed India from the British Rule. He proved to the world that freedom can be achieved through the path of non-violence.

For Gandhiji ‘Non-violence’ and truth were two inalienable  virtues. He summed up the entire philosophy of his life as : "The only virtue I want to claim is truth and non-violence. I lay no claim to super human powers : I want none".

He always emphasises on three things- Ahimsa(non-violence), Satya(truth), and Shanti(peace).

2)Religious prayers are also sung in the morning at the Samadhi followed by his favorite bhajan “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram.”

According to Gandhiji, truth and non-violence are the only tools to win independence. He also went to jail many times. Mahatma Gandhi always used to believe in social equality and also against untouchability.

Gandhiji has become a Role Model and an inspirational leader for the youth now. Other great leaders like Nelson Mandela, James Lawson also admired Gandhi’s theory of non-violence for the freedom and liberty. Gandhi did a great work to achieve Swaraj. He also improved the economic condition of farmers and also abolished other social evils like untouchability. He also supported Women empowerment.

Gandhi also lead various movements such as Non-Cooperation  Movement (1920), Dandi March (1930) and Quit India Movement (1942). All these movements were highly successful and were supported by youth greatly.

3) “Occasions like the present do not occur in everybody’s and but rarely in anybody’s life. I want you to know and feel that there is nothing but purest Ahimsa in all that I am saying and doing today. The draft Resolution of the Working Committee is based on Ahimsa, the contemplated struggle similarly has its roots in Ahimsa. If, therefore, there is any among you who have lost faith in Ahimsa or is wearied of it, let him not vote for this Resolution. Let me explain my position clearly. God has vouchsafed to me a priceless gift in the weapon of Ahimsa. I and my Ahimsa are on our trail today. If in the present crisis, when the earth is being scorched by the flames of Himsa and crying for deliverance, I failed to make use of the God given talent, God will not forgive me and I shall be judged unworthy of the great gift. I must act now.”

4)The United Nations General Assembly announced on 15th June, 2007 that October 2nd will be celebrated as the International Day of Non-Violence.

 QUOTES ON MAHATMA  GANDHI:

1.    Don’t talk about it. The rose doesn’t have to propagate its perfume. It just gives it forth, and people are drawn to it. Live it, and people will come to see the source of your power.

2.    A small body of determined spirits fired by an unquenchable faith in their mission can alter the course of history.

3.    You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is like an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.

4.    You can chain me, you can torture me, you can even destroy this body, but you will never imprison my mind.

5.    Nobody can hurt me without my permission.

6.    I consider it my duty to go with a begging-bowl, whenever I can. But it is also my dharma not to feel bad if people refuse to give anything.

7.    In my dream, in my sleep, while eating, I think of the Spinning Wheel. To me it is the Symbol of India’s liberty.

8.    I made the religion of service my own, as I felt that God could be realized only through service.

9.    I want the freedom of my country so that other countries may learn something from my free country so that the resources of my country might be utilized for the benefit of mankind.

10.  I want to tell the story of My Experiments with Truth. I claim for them nothing more than does a scientist who, though he conducts his experiments with the utmost accuracy, never claims any finality about his conclusions, but keeps an open mind regarding them.

11,An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind.

12,Be the change you want to see in the world.

13,The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.

14,Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.

15,The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.

16,First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.

17 ,Prayer is the key of the morning and bolt of the evening.

5) We live in a time not only of uncertainty and disruption, but also a time where a more aggressive and polarizing political rhetoric seems to be gaining ground. Let us therefore remind ourselves of what Gandhi not only said, but also did. I quote; “In a gentle way, you can shake the world”.People find  gasping at some  complex but crucial questions. But they feel that a person who inspired the likes of Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela to fight against injustice and discrimination and for equality would surely have had something extraordinary in him that made him the most respected, almost revered leader of the masses. An original thinker, with his own solutions for uplifting India, he is now remembered once a year people regret that the Mahatma, revered by the likes of Albert Einstein, has been rendered “untouchable” by his own compatriots.

6)Essence of Gandhi

·        People

Truth, trust, love, courage & simplicity

·        Planet

Environment, needs, bottom up devpt, service & sacrifice

·        Platform

Freedom, Democracy, Inclusion, Diversity, & Nonviolence

7)Gandhi's wisdom  has solutions for all our problems. Gandhi's ideas have been guiding us to be a better human, a happier family, a prosperous community, a progressive country, and a planet worth living and fighting for. Believing in Gandhi, is the only way we can gift a beautiful life to ourselves and our future generations.

Be The Change is an endeavor to imbibe the Gandhian principles in people's everyday life. It is our duty to wish for a change and more importantly, be the change.

8)Best Wishes on this Gandhi Jayanti  day to one & all.Let us follow the footprints he left in the sands of time.Dependence, Independence & Inter dependence are all inter-related.Following Mahatmas gospel,we all must realize that we have to exist before we can co-exist, saluting Truth, Ahimsa & Non-violence as the pillars to reach our goal & preserving our culture, heritage & diversity & demonstrate to the outside world  of our singular attachment to emerge as a Preeminent Nation in all spheres .
