GROUP MEDICLAIM POLICY

ALL INDIA INSURANCE PENSIONERS ASSOCIATION

25.02.2026.

The CEO & Managing Director, LIC of India, Central Office, Mumbai –400 021.

Dear Sir,

The Group Mediclaim Policy applicable to employees /retirees is due for renewal from 01.04.2026 for the policy year 2026-27. We would like to place before you following facts for your serious consideration. Please weigh the facts and arguments projected and consider making necessary changes before effecting renewal of GMC Policy for the year 2026-27.

The Cadre Sum Insured available now is Rs.10 lakhs / Rs.15 lakhs with subsidy to the extent of 75%. Of course, you were kind enough to waive premiums payable by Pensioners aged 71 and above during last policy year. We appreciate your gesture and request you to extend this benefit to all Pensioners, irrespective of their age. In this connection, we draw your kind attention to the representation we handed over to you in person on 23.08.2025, during your visit to Coimbatore. We urge upon you to increase the Cadre Sum Insured to Rs.20 lakhs/Rs.30 lakhs with subsidy, in view of the steep cost escalation for treatment, procedures and medicines.

We request you to consider our demand for making provision to cover expenses incurred by the Pensioners for dental procedures. Necessary provision may also please be made for reimbursement of cost of hearing aids and other geriatric / age related treatments.

Robotic surgeries are in place in almost all the hospitals of the Country. It is a very innovative surgical procedure widely acclaimed for its precision and accuracy. Unfortunately, as of now, expenses incurred for Robotic surgeries are restricted to limited number of procedures only. We have been actively pursuing the matter with CO officials including Executive Director (Personnel ) since May, 2024 for allowing all types of Robotic surgeries. A positive consideration is the need of the hour.

The Group Mediclaim Scheme precludes the expenses incurred by Pensioners for domiciliary treatment without hospitalisation. We have been demanding payment of a monthly Cash Medical Benefit to meet such exigency. Cash Medical Benefit is paid to Central Civil Service Pensioners as also to Pensioners of Reserve Bank of India. We brought this to the attention of ED(P) on 24.05.2024 when our delegation met him. Copies of relevant Circulars were also made available. Kindly consider this long pending, just and genuine demand of senior citizens seriously and come out with a positive decision without further delay.

The IRDAI advisory issued to Heath Insurance Companies directed them not to increase premium for Health Insurance policies at the time of renewal in an unchecked manner, in the case of seniors. This benevolent approach is to protect the senior citizens from sharp premium hikes and to prevent financial strain on elderly policy holders. We appeal to you to keep the spirit of IRDAI advisory in mind and consider freezing premiums payable by all Pensioners at the age band 60-65 and not to increase premium beyond that specifically for optional top up portion.

GST charged on Insurance policies / Health Insurance policies stands withdrawn. But, this benefit is available to Individual policy holders only. In the circumstances, the GST payable under Mediclaim policy may please be borne by LIC of India and thus give relief to Pensioners on that count as a goodwill gesture.

Several family pensioners have gone out of the Scheme for one reason or other, especially unable to afford to pay high premium. We request you to allow one more option for such family pensioners to join Group Mediclaim Scheme, as a special case.

We once again request you to consider demands put forth by us earnestly and to make necessary changes /additions in the GMC Policy before its renewal for the ensuing year.

Thanking you,

Yours faithfully,

General Secretary.
