*To all retired employee elders,*
Respected Namaskar,
Since many of you have been raising questions and concerns regarding the change in Mediclaim premium in the pension paid on 01/05/2026, I am trying to share the information and instructions we have studied and received from the Zonal Office:
*1. Regular Effect*
Compared to last year, there has been a 6.69% increase in the premium this year. Since this increase is applicable for the past two months, the difference between the old and new rate has been recovered.
*2. Refund Effect*
For employees who completed 71 years of age as of 01/04/2026, 100% LIC subsidy is available on the basic sum insured premium. This means the basic SA premium for both the employee and their spouse will be zero. (Even if the spouse is below 71, it will be based on the employee’s age).
However, for those who have taken optional additional sum insured, they will have to bear that premium themselves.
This year, for those who have completed 71 years, the basic premium has reduced, so a refund for the past two months will be given. The adjustment has been made in the last pension received. For those whose refund amount is more than the premium payable, no premium recovery has been done. If the refund is higher, it will be adjusted in the upcoming months’ premiums, resulting in lower deductions.
Once the refund is adjusted, regular premium deductions will continue.
A refund may also occur if any member has exited from the Mediclaim master compared to last year, such as due to death, a child completing 45 years of age, or voluntary cancellation of membership. In such cases, the premium for the past two months will be refunded.
*3. Additional Recovery Effect*
As age increases, the premium amount also increases. Our group Mediclaim policy has age-wise slabs: 0-35, 36-45, 46-55, 56-65, 66-70, 71-75, and 76+ up to lifetime. When age crosses into a new slab, the premium rate increases.
Everyone is subject to the 6.69% increase. Additionally, if any member’s age changes the slab as shown above, the premium rate increases. Therefore, the premium increases due to the regular hike + slab change due to age + GST on the increased amount. The calculation for the past two months is also being done, so the difference may appear as a higher deduction. If it was not deducted earlier, it will be deducted now.
Technical errors in pension payments will also be adjusted.
Our reconciliation is currently ongoing. If excess premium has been deducted after calculation, it will be refunded and adjusted in the coming months. If the premium deducted is less or was not deducted, recovery will be made and adjusted accordingly.
At the division level, we cannot take any manual action. We are working by providing feedback, informing the zonal group, and staying in contact with the zone via email and phone.
We request you all to remain assured. In the end, no one will end up paying excess, and no shortfall will be left unadjusted. Please do not rush to the pensioners’ association or the office for inquiries on this matter. We appeal to you to be patient.
🙏
Thank you,
Urmish Kotak

💐 May all be well.. 🙏
