A hydrogen-powered train is a zero-emission locomotive that uses hydrogen fuel cells to generate electricity, replacing traditional diesel engines. Instead of carbon emissions or smoke, the only by-product produced by the electrochemical reaction is water vapour and heat.

How It Works
Inside the train's fuel cells, stored hydrogen combines with oxygen from the outside air. This chemical reaction generates electricity to power the traction motors that turn the wheels. Because they generate electricity onboard, these trains do not require expensive overhead electrified cables, making them ideal for routes that are difficult or costly to electrify.
