Friends,
REG: 1. In SC today 2. Meeting with Addl. Secy (Fin)
In the Supreme Court
There was an unexpected miscellaneous item on the agenda, in the SC today, which took nearly 3 hours and at nearly 3 pm our turn came. LIC 's advocate, said he had filed on record the status report which was asked for, last time and that should be discussed. But, Sri Nidesh Gupta, Counsel for AIRIEF, said he would want to go into the SLP's main points and he would himself need 2 hours at least. At this, the judges gave option as to whether the status report on DHC compliance to be discussed or other aspects on merits. When Counsels representing all the pensioners insisted that it has to be the arguments on 'merits', the judges said, in that case you come back on Tuesday the 25th of Feb. 2020. That was the sad story of yet another adjournment.
Meeting with Addl. Secy (Fin) Smt. Dakshita Das
Representatives of Retirees, Sri Anand Tyagi Development Officer (Retd), Sri Gupta, Dev Officer (Retd), Sri Vijay Singh Shikarwar of AIRIEF, Sri Ranjan Sarkar of AIRIEF, , Sri M Arunachalam and I from our Federation, met Smt Dakshita Das Addl. Secretary, Ministry of Finance, and Nalin Joint Secretary. We handed over a one-page memorandum covering 3 points on Pension Revison, Family Pension, and 80 plus retirees. We also reminded Madam of 3 references for approval received from LIC (age extension to 67 from present 65 for 7 years full pension for widow, last month's pay for basis for fixing of pension if it is of greater advantage, and Family Pension to 30%).
She asked us as to when we are waiting from, on the pension revision matter. We mentioned that LIC itself passed a Board Resolution in 2001 and Govt. had not come back with the approval for this for 20 years now. She said she would look into it and try her best to sort it out, though the matter having taken so long, cannot be solved overnight. We mentioned about the big disparities in pensions between older and newer retirees in LIC.
This meeting we thought had gone off very well and I sincerely expect some spin-off results from this. Since I am reporting from Delhi over mobile phone, I am not extending this to more than this length on details.
More later. With Greetings.
D. Krishnan
General Secretary
